Tips for ecological cleaning at home

Right now, sustainable food, products and machines are all the rage. Below you will find a few tips to make ecological cleaning products at home. The environment will thank you.

Cleaning spray for all surfaces

To create 400ml you will need: peel of 4 oranges; 200 ml of white vinegar; 500 ml glass container; recycled spray bottle.

Procedure: Carefully place the orange peel in a glass jar and cover with the white vinegar. Put the cap on and then let it stand for four weeks. During this time, shake the jar occasionally and gently. Strain the vinegar into a spray bottle and fill with the same amount of water Fill up; shake briefly to mix. Spray directly onto surfaces and wipe with a damp cloth. wipe off.

Ecological oven cleaner

To make enough cleaner for a one-time oven cleaning, you will need: 60 g baking soda; 60 ml white vinegar; table salt; spray bottle.

Procedure: Put the bicarbonate of soda in a small bowl and mix with a little cold water gradually until a paste is formed. Wearing rubber gloves, take a cloth and rub the paste all over the surface of your oven. Depending on the size of your oven, you may need to make a little more product. Let it sit for 12 hours to work its magic. Afterwards, wipe down all surfaces with paper towels and dispose of them. Put the vinegar in a spray bottle and spray all the surfaces of your oven. Use salt as an abrasive for stubborn stains by applying it directly to the cloth, scrubbing, and then rinsing with a cloth and some warm water to remove all residue. Wipe all surfaces with clean, warm water and then allow to dry.

Natural glass cleaner

This cleaner has a somewhat strong odor that completely dissipates after drying.

To make the glass cleaner you will need: 2 cups of water (distilled or filtered so that it leaves no residue), 2 tablespoons of vinegar, 10 drops of essential oil of choice.

Procedure: Mix the ingredients in a spray bottle and use to clean windows as needed. It is best to use a microfiber cloth to wipe the windows dry. However, old newspaper is also ideal for this purpose. This also cleans without streaks.

Lemon and Lavender Textile Freshener Spray

ngredients: 1/2 cup water, 1/4 cup vodka (or other alcohol), 5 drops lemon essential oil, 5 drops lavender essential oil, spray bottle.

Procedure: Place the ingredients in a spray bottle and shake to mix. If there are bad odors on your clothing or other fabrics, some of the cleaner can be sprayed on the clothing as needed to combat bad odors. Spray on fabric to freshen - allow to dry completely before using. If you are concerned about water on fabric, test on an inconspicuous area first.

Furniture polish

Ingredients: 30 grams of unrefined (solid) coconut oil, 12 drops of jojoba oil, 7 drops of essential oil.

Procedure: Mix all the ingredients until they are blended into a smooth paste. Use a very small amount and polish the furniture with it until you get an even shine.

Two eco-friendly kitchen cleaning tips

1. wiping down surfaces and equipment Instead of spraying your counter with a chemical product, simply use just pure vinegar. Put a small amount on a clean rag or paper towel and spread it over your countertop. Vinegar is much gentler than many products and will leave your surfaces shining. Vinegar also acts as a stain remover - put a few drops on a particularly hard-to-remove stain, let it sit for a few minutes, and simply wipe the stain away. Vinegar is also an effective household cleaner. Mix three parts water with one part vinegar, and you're ready to start the fight with the most stubborn dried grease and stains.

2. cleaning the sink There are many eco-friendly cleaning tips to make your sink shine, but this one will help you with preventative cleaning and necessary cleaning if you notice a clog. Pour 1/4 of a cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of vinegar down the drain. Let it sit for up to half an hour and then pour boiling water after. This will remove residue and food particles from the drain and drive away any unpleasant odors.

In the future, we should examine which cleaning products are really necessary. Do we really need a toilet cleaner or will a bathroom cleaner and some mild scouring powder do the trick? Do we really need chemicals to unclog a drain or are household items like a long pipe cleaner or plunger just as appropriate? We tend to rely on chemicals, but in principle the same effects can be achieved with home remedies. We should become more conscious about using chemical cleaners and think twice whether we really need a different cleaner for each product or whether the problem can possibly also be solved with home remedies or with home-made cleaners.
